SOLAR ELECTRICITY PROGRAMME
“SURYA ROSHINI”
The Project Objective
The project undertaken by Victas Foundation focuses on the need of electrifying the villages and in turn helps the country progress for the better.
Our Goal
VICTAS Foundation aims to choose 5 non-electrified villages; which are in urgent need of electrification and would propose the importance of having solar charging centers; which would not only be cost-effective but eco-friendly as well.
Key Features of the Project
» The beneficiaries would get light after sunset, unlike before, and this would change their lifestyle completely.
» Students can boost up their studying hours.
» Housewives and craftsmen can earn an additional living by working extra which would result in a better lifestyle.
» Number of deaths on account of snake- bites in the evening or night can reduce.
» Senior- citizens, diseased patient, handicapped individuals, lactating mothers and the likes would be benefitted beyond imagination.
More Features
The village planners (active villagers who take part in village development activities) can conduct meetings/ discussions in the evening at any common place like temples, mosques, etc.
A special bond would develop between the sponsor and the beneficiaries; the villagers would know more about their sponsors through advertisement and bill boards that they would witness with the help of light. They would know who sponsored their alighting program.
Technology Used
» Concentrated Solar power: Solar energy is made to fall on a concentrated area using lenses or mirrors and sunlight is transformed into a small beam. A working fluid is heated by the concentrated sunlight, and is then used for power generation or energy storage.
» Solar lanterns would be charged from a Power Station which would be set up within the village community.
» Victas Foundation technology is a low cost, environment friendly, sustainable and energy saving.
Our Project Division
“SURYA ROSHINI” is divided into two components
» Community Service Program (CSP)
» Domestic Service Program (DSP)

COMMUNITY SERVICE PROGRAM (CSP)
CSP aims at recognizing 10 main points; where solar light poles would be set up; in each of the 5 villages; which would be enlightened throughout the night (from sunset to sunrise).
These main points would be places well-acquainted to the rural populace like panchayet office, rural library, religious centers, main road connectors, ferry ghats and the likes.
A total of 50 units (10 units x 5 villages) of community light poles would be set up under this program.
The entire populace of these five villages would be benefitted by this program.
DOMESTIC SERVICE PROGRAM (DSP)
DSP aims at recognizing 100 families from each of the 5 villages (100 x 5 = 500 families). The USP about this program is that the 100 families would be selected on the basis of top priority considering factors like BPL families, families having students, senior citizens, diseased patients, physically or mentally handicapped members, pregnant, lactating or single mothers.
Each family would be provided a solar lamp-set for their individual use (100 x 5 = 500 lamp sets).
BENEFICEARY SELECTATION
Households/Beneficiary would be selected on the basis of top priority considering factors
BPL families
Families having students, Senior- citizens, diseased patients, physically or mentally handicapped members, pregnant mothers, lactating mothers, etc.
Total 500 families(100 families X 5 villages)would be provided solar lantern .(1 lantern for each family)
For the People…
Two different solar charging centers would be set up within the radius of 5 villages where the owners of the lamp sets would come for re-charging the same.
Each solar charging centre would have a capacity of charging 250 lamps per day. Therefore, 500 lamps can be charged per day from two charging centers.

By the People…
A local resident of the community would be hired who would act as a service provider for each charging station. Two people would be employed for looking after, maintaining and providing service to the users of these stations.
These individuals would also be responsible for maintaining 50 street lights under CSP.
From the People (Deliverables)
» The community will have to provide land for establishment of 2 charging stations as well as for setting up street lights as per the requirement.
» The community will have to take the entire ownership of this program, from taking care of the stations to maintaining its machineries and ensuring its safety.
» The beneficiaries will have to pay a minimal of Re. 1 per lamp set per day for recharging.
» Salary of the two hired service providers would be given from the money collected in the mode of recharging.
