However it is not always possible by the government to reach good and safe drinking water to all, so there are efforts by NGO’S to reach safe drinking water in terms of mineral water to all. Through mineral water project information the NGOs also try to build support around this issue. How important is mineral water to rural India? Let us find out:

Mineral Water For Rural India –

* Better drinking water equals to better health.  In rural areas where access to good drinking water is a challenge, access to clean and clear water is vital for prevention against many diseases. As it is the medical facilities are not so improved in rural India, in such context it is important to take preventive action against water borne diseases. It is also true that the water which is used as drinking water is not good enough for drinking. Hence, overall, it becomes very crucial to have access to good drinking water.

* In the gender context too drinking water forms a very important part. In most of the areas of rural and suburban area women have to travel miles to get access to a pot of good drinking water. What is easily available and accessible in urban areas is not the case here. Hence women have to walk for hours to get access to good drinking water. A water provision eases this problem to a great extent. Women do not have to tire themselves walking. They and their families can have safe drinking water at negligible cost. This helps the women to be productively engaged in other helpful activities and take care of their health as well.

* Children are very vulnerable to diseases. Water from polluted sources can lead to many water-borne diseases for children. It can lead to child mortality as well. So, better drinking water can mean adding more years to the lives of vulnerable children as well.

* A community water project like a mineral water project gives a scope for the local youth to involve themselves. This will not only help in drinking water project but in many such local community projects as well.

These are some ways by which community drinking water project can be helpful. Victas Foundation is one such organisation which is involved in such projects and has been a pioneer in reaching purified water to rural and suburban regions in India.
